What is the Time Slot Tracker?
The Time Slot Tracker is a powerful, privacy-friendly time tracking tool that runs completely in your browser. Unlike traditional time tracking systems, no personal data is collected or stored on external servers. All calculations and optional storage occur exclusively locally on your device.
The tool was developed to enable simple, anonymous time tracking without compromising privacy. It's perfect for freelancers, teams who want to track their work hours, or anyone who wants to keep an overview of their time usage – GDPR compliant and without tracking.
With its intuitive interface and flexible export options, the Time Slot Tracker offers a modern alternative to complex time tracking systems. Color coding of entries enables quick visual distinction between different activities or projects.
How does time tracking work?
1. Create Entry
Click "Add Entry" to create a new time entry. Each entry automatically receives a unique color and can be labeled individually. Give your entries meaningful names like "Project Work", "Meeting", or "Research".
2. Track Time
You have two options: Use the play button to set the current time as start time, or enter start and end time manually. The stop button automatically sets the current time as end time. Duration is calculated and displayed in real-time.
3. Customize Entries
Change the label, date, or color of your entries anytime. Color selection uses an integrated color picker, so you can optimally categorize your entries. All changes are applied immediately.
4. Export Data
Export your tracked times as CSV file for Excel or Google Sheets, or as ICS calendar file for your calendar app. The CSV export contains all details including labels, date, start and end times, and the calculated duration in minutes.

Team Time Tracking
Use the tool for transparent but anonymous time tracking in teams. Since no personal data is collected, it's perfect for privacy-sensitive environments.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)
Is my data uploaded anywhere?
No, absolutely not. All data stays exclusively in your browser. There's no communication with external servers. Even the optional auto-save function only stores locally in your browser's LocalStorage.
What happens when I close my browser?
Without auto-save enabled, your entries will be lost. Enable the auto-save option to automatically save your entries locally. Export important data regularly as CSV or ICS to permanently secure it.
Can I share entries with others?
You can share the exported CSV or ICS files with others. These contain only your entered labels, times, and dates – no personal information.
How precise is the time tracking?
Time tracking works to the minute. When you use the play/stop buttons, your device's current system time is used. Manual inputs can be made accurate to the minute.
Is there a limit on entries?
There's no fixed upper limit. The limitation only comes from your browser's available LocalStorage (typically 5-10MB). For normal usage, this is enough for thousands of entries.
Is the tool GDPR compliant?
Yes, 100%. Since no personal data is collected, processed, or transmitted, the tool meets all GDPR requirements. There are no cookies, no tracking, and no data transmission to third parties.
Can I track past days retroactively?
Yes, you can select any date for each entry. This allows you to track times retroactively or create entries for future planning.
Which export format should I choose?
CSV is suitable for further processing in Excel, Google Sheets, or accounting software. The ICS format is ideal when you want to import tracked time slots into your calendar (Outlook, Google Calendar, Apple Calendar).
